Prayer Power
- Donna Harper is a teacher at Mission Bend Christian Academy. Her daughter, Melanie Burt, had unusual difficulties in achieving pregnancy, so she prayed for a miracle baby. When Melanie did get pregnant, she was diagnosed with an entopic pregnancy and was told to abort. The Mission Bend Prayer Ministry team and numerous others prayed faithfully and with expectant belief for Melanie and the baby. Melanie and the baby survived many, many severe difficulties and the miracle baby, Mallory Burt, was born on October 24, 2006. Not only had God and prayers persisted, He prevailed. Thank You, Lord.
- Mickey Ellis was diagnosed with breast cancer at stage 3b, a tumor the size of a baseball. Many Christians began praying for her, and three months later, the cancer could no longer be detected. Her doctors were very surprised, however her husband Mike and Mickey were not at all surprised. As Mickey said, “Our God is an awesome God, and He still performs miracles.”
- Peter Schwedler’s sister Mary had such an enlarged heart that it was pressing on her windpipe. Mary kept repeating “I shall not die but live and proclaim what the Lord has done.” Psalm 118:17 Mary was prayed for by many Christians, including our Mission Bend family. The doctors gave her a 2% chance to live another 72 hours. Her kidneys and liver shut down, her blood pressure bottomed out, and she went code blue. She almost died twice on the operating table. Yet she recovered and over seven years later Mary is doing well and still singing praises to God. Peter said he knows God answers prayers; his sister is living testimony.
- Pat Howell’s eyesight became very bad and her ophthalmologist told her there was nothing that could be done for her because she had advanced dry macular degeneration. She could not drive at night and only drove in familiar areas in the daytime, because she could no longer read street signs. A Mission Bend service of prayer and healing was held for her, and Josie Schwedler’s mother, Rosa Contreras, came from Bryan to pray over her. Pat had been told by her dentist that she had to have a root canal. When she went back to the eye doctor, he told her he had no explanation for it, but her eyes could now be corrected to 20/20 vision. He said that earlier he had been telling her to go home and go blind, not in those words but that was the meaning of “there is nothing that can be done for you.” The next day she went to the dentist, who was amazed that her teeth and gums were so healthy that she no longer needed a root canal. She is thankful that in answer to prayer, the Lord healed her eyes, and while He was at it, he healed her mouth.
